The year 2000 marks the 1000th anniversary of Leif Erickson's voyages of discovery to America. In recognition of this anniversary, the Edvard Grieg Society and the Leif Erickson Society are arranging a joint event at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 80th Street & Fourth Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. Co-founder of the Leif Erickson Society, Mr. John Carlson, will talk about the Vikings and the discovery of America. Founder and President of the Edvard Grieg Society, Dr. Per Brevig, will give a presentation of Bjornstjerne Bjornson's adaptation of Bergliot as taken from Harald Hardraades Saga by Snorre, and set to music by Edvard Grieg. Refreshments will be served. Donation $5.00.
This event is presented in conjunction with Dr's. Finn Benestad and William Halverson's publication of some 500 letters in a volume that will be entitled Edvard Grieg: Letters to Colleagues and Friends.
The scholars will make a brief presentation and discuss the historic correspondence between Edvard Grieg, Johannes Brahms and Franz Liszt. A concert with music by Grieg will follow the presentation. Seating is limited and reservations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. For reservations and information, please call Berit Brevig, 914-359-6714
The Society and the Sons of Norway Lillehammer Lodge, Manhattan, invite you to attend an evening at the Norwegian Church and Cultural Center in a program entitled Meet the Artists. Per Brevig will interview painters Irene Christensen and Kjeld Tiedemand-Johannessen in conjunction with the opening of their ar exhibition at the Norwegian Church and Cultural Center, 317 E. 52nd Street. Donation $10.
The Society's Second Annual Benefit Concert, Dinner and Art Auction will take place at Three West Club, 3 West 41st Street, New York. Outstanding Norwegian and American painters have donated their art works to benefit the Society.
